Comedy stars are tickling our funny bones and touching our hearts by providing the voices of adoptable dogs and cats for a just unleashed web series which will raise awareness about companion animals who are hoping to land a starring role in the life of a loving pet parent.

Marking Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Heavy Petting premiered on Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls website on October 14th with a webisode devoted to Bart, a 10-month-old pup who wants to be someone’s barking buddy. Expressing the cuddly canine’s ebullient emotions is a real ‘stand up guy,’ comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer John Mulaney. Future videos will include the voices of former Parks and Recreation stars Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman and Aziz Ansari, The Mindy Project‘s Ike Barinholtz, Paul Scheer from The League and Fresh Off the Boat, and more.

A tongue in cheek, dating app-inspired look at the option of pet adoption,Heavy Petting was launched thanks to a partnership between Smart Girls (a website co-founded by Golden Globe-winning actress Amy Poehler and Meredith Walker), the ASPCA and animal shelters from coast to coast. Along with promoting pet adoption, the web series will also shine a spotlight on the importance of fostering shelter pets and volunteering at your local animal shelter.
