Saluting an organization which offers a new lease on life to both vets and pets in need, A&E unleashes the new documentary series Dogs of War on Veterans Day.
Each episode in the series will take television viewers on a journey with a vet who learns to successfully tackle the PTSD and/or traumatic brain injury which has kept him from coming home home on an emotional level with help from a dog who was once in need of a forever home.
More than 60 service dogs have been saved from the shelter system thanks to Paws and Stripes– a nonprofit established by veteran Jim Stanek and his wife Lindsey, who have first-hand knowledge of the internal struggle some in the military face after returning from combat.
Dealing with both PTSD and traumatic brain injury after his third tour of duty in Iraq, Jim and his wife faced obstacles when they went in search of a trainer to teach their rescued canine companion to be a service dog. The roadblocks they encountered led the couple to strike out on their own path with the launch of Paws and Stripes, which has rescued more than 60 dogs and given more than 50 canines a vocation as service dogs since its start in 2010.
Dogs of War premieres on November 11th at 10 P.M. ET/PT, with subsequent episodes airing on Sundays at 10 P.M. ET/PT starting November 16th.
