Dog-Friendly Albany, Texas

Located west of Fort Worth, the small community of Albany is county seat of Shackleford County.

Dog-Friendly Attractions

Fort Griffin State Historical Site.  Once part of the state park system, today this park is part of the Texas Historical Commission. The park is home to the ruins of Old Fort Griffin, constructed in 1867 and decommissioned in 1881. The park is also home to some of the state herd of Texas longhorns. Dogs on leash are permitted at the site (although not in buildings). The park is located 15 miles north of Albany on US Highway 283.
