Austin Celebrates Mardi Paws!

Earlier this year, we told you about 15 Mardi Gras dog parades that help pups in need. We included one event that’s local to us: Grocery Pup‘s first annual Mardi Paws, and today we wanted to share some fun photos and special details about this inaugural event.

Mardi Paws aims to increase awareness of rescued dogs and raise money to help keep them safe, fed, healthy and most importantly – in a loving home. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Austin Dog Rescue and Cutie PITooties Pitbull rescue!

If you’re in the Austin area, be sure to check out this Mardi Gras dog parade and party:

Mardi Gras King & Queen

Watch for Mardi Paws king dog, Sebastian, a recently adopted shelter dog from Cutie PITooties Pitbull rescue. After fostering and a lot of TLC, Sebastian was adopted and is now fully recovered, ready to take his place as one  of Austin’s most handsome and happiest pups.

The Mardi Paws queen, Lil’ Kim, was rescued by Austin Dog Rescue in November from a shelter in Lockhart. Sadly after multiple surgeries, she was close to being ready to be adopted but developed a neurological disorder about a week ago. Her condition steadily worsened, and, after visits to the emergency room, she left for the Rainbow Bridge on January 21. In her place, her furry foster brother and fellow Austin Dog Rescue pup, Kaxan (who is well known to viewers of KXAN weather!), will ride in her honor as the Duke of Mardi Paws.
