Surf Dog Ricochet to Throw First Pitch at Padres Game

Having recently raised her $300,000th dollar for efforts that help both people and pets, Surf Dog Ricochet is always ready to step up to the plate for a good cause, and at 7 p.m. on August 23, 2013 the SURFice dog will hit a home run the hearts of her fans as the sports-loving Spot throws out the first ceremonial pitch when the San Diego Padres takes on the Chicago Cubs.

On the pitcher’s mound with Ricochet will be her tandem surfing partners Patrick Ivison and Ian McFarland. The honor celebrates the fourth anniversary of Ricochet’s first history-making surfing session with Ivison, who lost the use of his limbs after an uninsured driver backed a vehicle over him. McFarland, Ricochet’s other surf buddy, suffered from a severe brain injury from a 2008 car crash which claimed the lives of his parents. After the accident McFarland found himself afraid of the water which he once loved to surf with his father, until surfing with Ricochet turned the waves of fear he fought with into waves of joy and excitement.

“I’m honored to have Ricochet throw out the first pitch with Patrick and Ian. It will be interesting to see if she runs to home plate and scores a run as the boys throw their first pitches!” Judy Fridono, Ricochet’s guardian said. “Chicago is my home town, and I’m really excited the Padres are playing the Cubs. It’s an extra special treat” added Fridono.
