365: Drought

I’ve lived in Texas almost my entire life (my dad was in the military so we moved around until I was middle school age). John has always lived in Texas. With all those years of heat and scarce rain, we thought we’d seen drought.

We were wrong.

Two years ago, the drought to end all droughts started and, although we had some relief last year, it continues today. The lakes resemble drained tubs…with yards and yards of rocks and soil that were once the lakebed…

This afternoon, we walked down a now-closed boat launch which ends far, far from the water’s edge. It was a good hike on down to the water:

But the dogs didn’t care…they were just happy to see water!

Irie was especially glad to hop in the lake (which had to be chilly):

Like all the lake parks these days, there was little sign of life at the park today because it’s not accessible to boaters. But we did see some evidence that the drought isn’t impacting everyone; this redbud is happily declaring it spring!
