Dear Alecia,
I have a standard poodle. I also have four children under the age of 6. I am supervising all interactions and trying my best to positively train him. He does like to go under things…he hangs out under my desk, under my table instead of on his dog bed. He is social, he will run around the kids and play.
I’m just wondering if he is scared or stressed. There are no other indicators that he is scared…other than him growling at my husband one time…it was dark. He is 14 weeks old. we are using lots of treats and praising him for good behavior. — Kellie
Hi Kellie,
Sounds like you have quite the busy household. And it also sounds like you are doing all the right things and have it all under control.
Poodles, in my opinion are the closest you can get to a human being in a fur suit. They are very smart, loving, loyal, fun and also know when they have had enough interaction and need a rest. It sounds like your pup is just being a pup and pups like to lie or sleep in protected spaces which is part of the innate den mentality. As he gets older he may or may not outgrow this but there is nothing wrong with it at all.
So enjoy him and know that he seems to be taking good care of himself and really grateful you are taking such good care of him.
Paws Up!
