94*365: Saving Blurry Photos

I don’t know what it is about our Blackberry phones but I have a VERY tough time taking a photo without moving the phone just a bit during the shot. Maybe it’s from just too many years of having a shutter button and a camera to actually grip but for me it’s very difficult to hold the phone and press the virtual shutter button while keeping the phone steady.

So, as a result, I wind up with too many photos that are a LITTLE out of focus. Not crazy blurry, which could be interesting, but just sort of out of focus, like this…

I shot this on our front porch after dinner tonight when Irie climbed into John’s lap. (She’s pretty sure she’s a lap dog…all 82 pounds of her!) A fun photo…and one that’s not at all sharp.

So I switched it to black and white:

Suddenly that out of focus annoyance isn’t nearly as evident!

Next, I tried changing it to a sepia toned photo:

Again, the out of focus problem isn’t nearly as obvious!

If the photo had been really out of focus (but not in a smeared, blurry way), I would have probably tried something like an Old West filter as my first choice, since those include a blurry action to make the shot even more blurry:

Before you toss out that out of focus shot, play with a little bit…you might like the final result even better!
