Review: PSCPets Skin And Coat Soft Chews For Dogs

Product: PSCPets Skin And Coat Soft Chews For Dogs

What it is: Treat-sized nutritional supplements

Manufacturer: Probiotic Smart (Vets Plus, Inc.), Menomonie, WI (Made in USA)

DogTipper Review: PSCPets Skin And Coat Soft Chews are part of an extensive product line addressing a range of pet nutritional issues. These treat-sized chews contain several ingredients (Vitamin E, Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, Biotin) designed to support healthy skin and coat in dogs. The manufacturer says that daily use will prevent shedding and boost skin tone and also prevent allergic reactions, citing research indicating that lack of these acids is instrumental in causing hair loss in dogs.

The complete ingredient list is as follows:

Dried Poultry Liver, Molasses, Wheat Flour, Soy Flour, Soybean Oil, Lecithin, Glycerin, Corn Starch, Flax Seed Meal, Fish Meal, Sucrose, Vitamin E Supplement, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate (a Preservative), Mixed Tocopherols (a Preservative), Hydroxymethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, FD&C Red#40, FD&C Blue#1, FD&C Yellow#6, FD&C Yellow#5, Zinc Methionine, and Biotin Supplement.

One unusual ingredient to the chews is “edible glitter,” small star-shaped sprinkles dotting the treats. The glitter is made from the same components found in the chews themselves.

PSCPets Skin And Coat Soft Chews come in two different sizes ( 2 grams and 4 grams) appropriate for dogs of different sizes. The company recommends giving one or two treats per day to enhance skin and coat health and control shedding and dander.

We received a container of 4 gram treats for medium and large dogs. Tiki and Irie love treats, so it was no problem convincing them to try them out. With Spring around the corner, we’ll be interested to see if their shedding issues will be diminished by the chews. For now, we’ll just say that our dogs will be glad to receive an extra treat or two each day. We like the fact that they are made in the USA.
