DogTipper Review: We love stylish dog collars; with two large dogs that don’t take kindly to any kind of clothing (and coats only when they’re really, really necessary), collars are our way of dressing up our two girls. We were so happy to receive a Heart & Bone Collar and Lead from Up Country to review:
These pieces are part of their Waterplace Park Collection, a springy and stylish collection that ranges from peace symbols to dragonflies to daisies. (Up Country has a whole catalog of other collar styles, too, including sea-inspired prints in the Regatta Collection, surf and sea prints in the Sanibel Collection, and even stars and stripes in the American Picnic Collection.)
Regardless of style, all the ribbon collars are made using high-tensile strength nylon webbing with sewn on polyester/nylon ribbons so they’re stain and fray resistant. Since our dogs love to take a good roll on indescribable substances now and then, we were happy see that the collars and leashes are all machine washable (air dry).
Of course, while we loved the style, when it comes right down to it, function is what really matters in a collar and a lead…so we set about checking on the most important parts of the collar: its hardware. For all the serious beauty of the Up Country Collar, there’s some serious hardware behind these collars and leads, too. The hardware isn’t welded brass but cast brass for plenty of strength:
And the quick-release buckles on the collars are Coast Guard-approved for high weight hold.
We reviewed the 1-inch-wide collar but Up Country also makes 5/8 inch narrow sizes and 1/2-inch Teacup sizes. Leads come in 4- and 6-foot lengths.
For all their beauty and practicality, though, there’s another side to Up Country that’s a huge plus to us, too: adoptors at the Rhode Island SPCA collect a new collar and lead set from Up Country. “It’s our way of saying thank you and good luck to the lucky new family and pet,” explains the Up Country catalog. This is truly a company with a big heart for dogs.
A big paws up for Up Country!!
