365: Our Enchanted Rock Day Trip #TexaswithDogs

We hope everyone is enjoying a great holiday season, and I wanted to apologize for my lack of 365 posts! Work has been incredibly busy the past few months between promotion of DogTipper’s Texas with Dogs book, writing (and then going through editing) our upcoming The Healthy Hound Cookbook (out in March), freelancing, Event Barkers Twitter parties and promotions, and more. It was summer…and now I look up and suddenly it’s the end of the year!

We worked straight through Thanksgiving but decided this week that we’d take off a day for a fun day trip with Irie and Tiki. No deadlines, no tracking down of phone numbers or hours for our usual guidebook work. Just a fun trip with our doggies.

We headed out to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area near Fredericksburg, one of our favorite getaways. It was one of our top stops on our very first book, Day Trips from San Antonio and Austin, published 20 years ago. That book has gone through two publishers and numerous editions; it’s now split into two volumes and published by Globe Pequot. Since that first book was written, we’ve written 32 more, ranging from guides to Texas barbecue joints to romantic guides to the Caribbean. We have to say that having Irie and Tiki along for the ride definitely made the research on DogTipper’s Texas with Dogs so much fun to research!

Our day trip took us through Marble Falls and to Starbucks for hot chocolate for us and a free Puppuccino–a spoonful of whipped cream in a tiny cup–for the dogs. We then headed to Johnson City, on the banks of the Pedernales River (which is one of those Texas place names that quickly separates the locals from the visitors…it’s pronounced Purr-du-nales):

…then we were off to Enchanted Rock!

The last time we’d been at the park had been to research the book so, this time, it was fun to have the finished book in hand!

Now we’ve once again returned to cold, rainy weather (which, after one of the worst droughts Texas has ever experienced, we are NOT complaining about) but we’re looking forward to another day trip in the next week or so with Irie and Tiki!
