Today we have a guest model: Felix! To talk about maximizing contrast in your photos, I thought it would be fun to feature our black and white cat and senior member of the CatTipper team.
Photographing your dog (or cat) against a contrasting background really, really makes your pet stand out. Compare that photo to this one terrible shot that I took with the same camera on the same afternoon:
You can hardly see Irie…she just blends in to the background!
A photo like this shot of Felix, taken with my cell phone on the white stairs that lead up to John’s office, really “pops” due to the contrast…
…or zoom in for nothing but black and white tones…
Even if your dog or cat isn’t black or white, you can find contrasting backgrounds. A reddish dog like Irie would look good against a blue backdrop or green grass. White (and spotted) Tiki looks good against most colors except white or beige or a patterned, spotted backdrop. With just a little looking around your home and yard, you can find a background that contrasts to your dog’s coat!
Do you have a photo that shows your dog in contrast to the background? Just click the + link in the comments box to upload your photo and share the fun!
