After enduring six years as research subject, five beagles have gone from life behind the bars of cages in a South Korean laboratory to a life of freedom in the land of stars and stripes.

Once known only as numbers, Atticus, Isaac, Lennon, Phoenix and Robbie are five of 10 dogs from the same Seoul lab who were rescued thanks to ARME’s Beagle Freedom Project’s Operation April. While five of the dogs have found forever families in South Korea, the canines who have come to America are in need of specialized care.

Landing in Los Angeles, the brave canines received a welcome fit for a celebrity, complete with Hollywood helpers Chelsea Handler, Ross McCall, Whitney Cummings and Maria Menounos, who carried the dogs’ crates and unlatched the carriers’ doors so the dogs could take their first tentative steps on the grass.

By taking part in the emotional event, the stars followed in the footsteps of other famous friends of Fidos who have helped to shine a spotlight on the efforts of Beagle Freedom Project, including actor Corey Feldman, former Baywatch star Alexandra Paul, Castle cast member Seamus Dever and actress Nikki Reed from the Twilight Saga film franchise, who recently appeared alongside members of the non-profit animal rescue organization at the State Capitol of Sacramento, California to promote Assembly Bill 147, which would allow dogs and cats in labs the opportunity to be adopted once research experiments have come to an end.

A service of Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME), Beagle Freedom Project works with labs to legally remove dogs who have been tested upon and offer them a new lease on life in a forever home.
